According to records in the Ministry of small industries and customs four containers filled with cinnamon were imported into the country and reexported to Madagasgar in the year 2016 . This act badly affect Srilanka’s trade in the World Market and reexport is done under the pretext of sending Srilankan cinnamon.
Srilanka has obtained 132 million dollars by exporting cinnamon in last few years. Cinnamon is fetching the highest price among perfume items.
Having considered above facts, the Srilankan Cabinet has decided to ban import and export of cinnamon to other countries from Srilanka .
