Yahapalana Minister’ s Fraud to Bribery Commission, FCID

Addressing a Joint Opposition press conference at the Dr.N.M. Perera Memorial Hall,Borella yesterday, Parliamentarian Mahindananda Aluthgamage said the first complaint against this minister was made to these institutions by Parliamentarian Vasudeva Nanayakkara sometime ago, but, those commissions had still not summoned them in this regard so far.
Aluthgamage said yesterday he would submit the fourth complaint against a powerful Minister of the Government belonging to the Yahapalana Top 10 programme, to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption and the FCID .
This was one reason why they had suspicions about the independence of these Commissions,” he said. He said they have opened a separate website titled “Yahapalana Top 10” and anyone could download their documents from this website.
Parliamentarian Niroshan Premaratne said the SLBFE Chairman had allegedly issued a circular dated 21-8-2015 to all Employment agencies making it compulsory for all expatriate workers leaving for foreign jobs to subscribe to an insurance scheme by paying 100 US Dollars each.
“But a single Insurance Company had been given the authority to handle this Insurance scheme in contravention of a Supreme Court order which held that the scheme could not be handed over to a single company,” Premaratne added.
In response   Foreign Employment Minister Thalatha Atukorale  stated that the Insurance company was selected through the Srilanka  Insurance cooperation  and no  irregularity took  place. She wished Bribery Commission or FCID  to  investigate  the matter and clear the clouds.
