The trade union action launched by postal employees from mid night on Monday continues on. Since then they are on strike for 48 hours .
The Combined Postal Trade Unions’ Front said, that as a result of this island-wide strike, approximately 1.5 million letters remain stockpiled, unable to be delivered.
However, the Front said, that distribution of letters will be resumed from tomorrow morning. The Combined Postal Trade Unions’ Front convener Chintaka Bandara said that solutions were not reached within 14 days, they would resort back to continuing an uninterrupted strike thereafter.
While many post offices remained closed, many drivers faced huge inconveniences as a result of not being able to pay off fines for traffic offences at post offices.
Alternate arrangements are made to pay fines over special counters opened at Divisional and District Secretariats.
