Trinco Port Given to India in the Year 2002?
Minister of Petroleum & Petroleum Gas, Chandima Weerakkody has called for a press briefing at his Ministry yesterday (3), where he said, that the Trincomalee port was given to India in the year 2002 through an agreement. False propaganda is being carried out that Good Governance Government has given the Trinco port to India. Since 2002 all the governments followed the provisions in the agreement and carried out their obligations under the agreement. According to the agreement all fuel tanks in the Trinco port are under the control of the India. Now we are trying to recover 50% of it.
Further he said, G. L. Peiris was one of the main characters responsible for the defeat of Mahinda Rajapakshe in the last Presidential election. As Mahinda Government followed his Foreign policy for 10 years, Srilanka was separated from the International community .Peiris is the one who left UNP in the year 2001 to join the SLFP and defeated us. Hence, we did not take serious note of his Jabbering, he concluded.
