An Attempt By Condemned Prisoners For a Jail Break

Police Intelligence  Unit Chief Inspector M.A. S. Ranjith  has informed  the Colombo Chief Magistrate,  Lal Ranasinghe yesterday (16),   that condemned prisoners  Anura  Thusha Demal , Srinayake Pathiranalahe , Chaminda Ravi Jeyanath,  Koville Gadera Dissenayake Mudiyansalage Sarath Bandara, C.M. Priyantha Gnanagabandara and  former MP Arumadura Lowrance Remole Duminda Silva attempted  to break  the jail and escape.

CID  has requested permission from the court to inquire into the security provided to the prisoners, arrangements made to meet prisoners  by their relatives and friends  and the intelligent report regarding the attempted  escape . CID has made this request under section 124 of the Penal Code Act No 15 of 1979. The court has accepted this request and permitted  the CID to proceed with  the inquiry at Welikada.  Further,  the Officer In charge  of the Welikada prison was ordered  to give a statement to the CID by the Colombo Chief Magistrate.
