Letter to Chairman’s Wife Provoked him to Assaults Union Leader

Smallholdings Development Authority Chairman  Devagedara has been accused by the Authority’s trade union that he has  employed a girl, who had been recruited as a gardener, as his secretary.

Tea Smallholdings Development Authorities  Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya branch president W.V.S. Surasinghe said to have  sent a letter to Chairman’s wife against him.

This has provoked  the Chairman of the Tea Smallholdings Development Authority Wijeratne Devagedara, who summoned Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya  President  Surasinghe, to his room and assaulted him in front of other top officials.

 Being  a public servant for 25 years and due to retire in one and a half years, has also been transferred to Galle following the assault.

He has lodged a complaint regarding the assault to Thalangama police on January 17, and also complained to the UNP headquarters Sirikotha.
