The Former President and SLFP Kurunegala District MP Mahinda Rajapaksa participated in an alms-giving event held at the Abhayarama Temple yesterday, to mark the 74th birthday of Ven. Muruttetuwe Ananda Thera.
While answering a question from the journalist on Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake’s recent criticism of the Auditor General, Mahinda said, that the Finance Minister was acting as if though he was the President, while the President himself had been reduced to the role of the Finance Minister.
In other words President Maithripala Sirisena is acting only as a nominal President these days, he said.
He stated further, that all actions undertaken by the government was the responsibility of the President, and that he cannot abdicate his responsibility.
When asked for his views on the formation of a SPC to look into the CB Bond Scam, former President Rajapaksa asserted that before the appointment of such a committee, the government should have taken some measures against those alleged to have committed the large scale scam.
The former President added that under his administration, in the future, all those guilty of the scam will be brought before the law and punished.
