Minister of Labour and Trade Union Relations WDJ Seneviratne said, a law will be formulated promptly to make life insurance compulsory for private sector employees working in hazardous jobs.
Minister said, that steps will be taken to double the compensation paid in the event of the death of a labourer. 246 employees succumbed as a result of engaging in hazardous work in 2016.
He further said 100 engineers will be employed to inspect hazardous working environments.
