License to Excavate in Wild Life Reserves Temporally Halted

The director general of the wild life conservation, Anura Hathurusinghe observed,  that excavations have been conducted after obtaining licences  privately and through companies.  The current environmental issue, which has arisen, compelled  to temporally halt issue  of license for excavations in wild life reserves for sand, rocks, and gravel.
The decision has been taken following complaints received about the excavation of  sand, gravel and rocks without a proper mechanism in place.
