No New Buildings in Close Proximity to Electric Cables

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka has decided  to introduce new regulations with regard to constructing unsafe buildings in close proximity to electric cables. In the new regulation the minimum distance between the building and the electric cables will be  specified. If the voltage of the electric cable is less than 1000 volts, the minimum distance should be 2.4 meters.
If the voltage of the electric cables exceed that, then the distance should be increased accordingly. The Construction of buildings without considering above requirement  would be considered  as  illegal.
In the future, when providing licenses for construction, the standardized distance between the electric cables and the construction will be assessed. All local government institutions have been notified of the new regulations.
Issuing a communiqué the PUCSL noted that a safety certificate should be obtained from the Ceylon Electricity Board or from the Lanka electricity company Pvt. Ltd as proof of compliance with the regulations.
