The Government said, it will provide a final solution on solving the garbage dumping issue within the next two years.
Deputy Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Lasantha Alagiyawanna said, as of now the government has signed relevant agreements regarding the matter.
The Deputy Minister said protests are being held over the disposal of chemicals adding that the issue cannot be solved through the current disposal system.
Deputy Minister Alagiyawanna said, this is only a system of hiding garbage adding that garbage has been hidden during the past 30 years.
The Deputy Minister said a long term solution should be provided over the matter adding that the Ministry has formulated a plan to sign contracts and provide lands and to provide a long term solution during the next two years.
The Deputy Minister also addressed the public’s dissent over relocating garbage dumps.
The Deputy Minister said a temporary solution should be provided to the issue adding that it is a national issue and a national responsibility of the public, politicians and officials.
The Deputy Minister said certain parties will also have to make several sacrifices as well adding that a definite solution will not be arrived at without such commitments.
He added measures have been taken to arrive at a long term solution, however, it is the goal of the government to provide a temporary solution to the public without hindrances.
