Govt Doctors on Token Strike Today

Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA)  Secretary and Spokesman Dr. Naveen de Soyza told last evening that they would stage a 24-hour countrywide token strike beginning at 8:00 a.m. today and continue till 8:00 a.m. tomorrow. The token strike has been  launched due to the following reasons:-
  1. The brutal assault on IUSF students, who protested against SAITM and remand them.
  2. For not arresting the suspects who threw the hand    grenade at the Sri Lanka Medical Council
  3. Failure to take lawful action against the SAITM CEO and other suspects who were responsible
  4. The government’s actions to suppress trade union activists.
  5. The granting of permission to SAITM for using government hospitals and also not acting on the complaints, which have been lodged with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption.
There have been representations made to the GMOA depicting the gravity of these allegations and the absence of a positive response to same.
There will also be uninterrupted services at all the Maternity Hospitals, the Lady Ridgeway Hospital the Maharagama Cancer Hospital, the Military Hospitals, and the Hospital Units which are treating patients for kidney related diseases. Other than this the  token strike will be in operation island wide, he concluded.
