Gnanasara Thera Likely to be Arrested

For the last  past  two weeks hatred and crimes perpetrated against minorities have escalated.
Nineteen incidents  have been  recorded which included a petrol bomb throwing  at a mosque in Kurunegala, causing severe damage to property.
Last week Gnanasara Thera stormed in to the Ministry of National Co-existence Dialogue and Official Languages, threatened the Minister in charge Mano Ganesan and claimed that Sri Lanka belonged to the Sinhalese alone. Later Mano Ganesan lodged a complaint with the Police in regard this incident.
During the early hours on Sunday, a tense situation arose when BBS has been  prevented from having  access to a predominant Muslim area and attempted to arrest Gnanasara Thera. He got into a heated exchange with the Police and spoke in a disrespectful  manner about the  Prime Minister and the police.
In the meantime, UNP parliamentarian Mujibur Rahman has revealed  that the Prime Minister has been well briefed about the escalating hate crimes,  and the Prime Minister had promised to take necessary action.
Hence, possibility of  arresting  General Secretary of the militant monk movement Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera exists.
In the meantime Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera said yesterday that he is not scared of being arrested or going to jail.
