Warning to Matara Residents

Inhabitants of the Bandaththara area in Matara have been requested by the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) to evacuate the area immediately.

The evacuation notice was issued as per the reports that indicated that the flood-protective bunds of the Nilwala River had become vulnerable.

The Disaster Management Centre has also advised all residents of the greater Matara area to be vigilant of the rising water levels of the Nilwala River.The Bandaththara, Welewatta, Meddawatta, Uyanwatta and Nadugala areas were at risk of submerging in the event of a flood.
