Popular actress and former Parliamentarian Upeksha Swarnamali has been granted nomination from the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) in Gampaha District.
During the nomination period, it was widely speculated that she will not be given nomination by the UPFA.
In the 2010 General Election, Swarnamali contested from Gampaha District under the UNP ticket and entered parliament. She came second in the UNP list with 81, 350 preferences. She later crossed over to the UPFA.
