Several phone calls believed to originate from the United States and the Dominican Republic was received by many mobile phone users on Saturday and Sunday.
Upon returning the calls which were logged as unanswered or missed calls, a large sum of money had been deducted from the mobile phone users despite the call not being answered.
On complaints made to the Minister of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure Harin Fernando, he has directed the Criminal Investigations Department and the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission, to launch investigations into this matter. Minister Fernando said a report in this regard will be submitted promptly.
