Strike or Not to Strike Decision of the GMOA Today?

The government issued a statement saying that steps will be taken to halt student enrolment and degree awarding at SAITM.

UNP General Secretary Kabir Hashim and SLFP General Secretary Duminda Dissanayake said, during a press briefing that the Government will follow President aithripala Sirisena’s recommendations regarding SAITM, as soon as they are gazetted.

“Three long-term options for SAITM were recommended earlier. It would either function as a Private-Public Partnership (PPP) with a 51 per cent State ownership and 49 per cent listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange or as a consolidated fund organization,” Hashim said.

However, last week the GMOA has rejected the Government proposal and   their Central Committee gave approval for a countrywide indefinite strike aimed at forcing the Government to nationalize SAITM

GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge said, a final decision will be taken following a meeting of the Executive Committee to be held today.
