The Government Medical Officer’s Association (GMOA) has submitted 8 proposals to the Government. The Government has agreed to seven of the eight proposals.
GMOA’s eight proposals doesn’t include closure of SAITM. Medical Faculty But now they demand closure of SAITM Faculty and threatening continuous strike action by them, said UNP Parliamentarian Prof.Ashu Marasinghe during the Government Group Meeting. He further said, that the standards in medical education are must , not only for SAITM, but also all other medical faculties including medical faculties in Jaffna, Rajarata and Eastern medical faculties should be subjected to undergo common quality standards.. Legal Draftsman is attending on drafting the minimum standards specified by the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) now.
Government stance on the issue of closing down SAITM Medical Faculty demanded by GMOA is only a dream. SAITM medical faculty will not be shut down.
During the government group meeting all parliamentarians have unanimously agreed not to allow the GMOA to hold the Government into ransom. They decided to weaken the unfair and unethical trade union action of the GMOA.
