Token Strike by IRD Employees Today…

H.A.L. Udayasiri, Convenor of the Joint Committee of Trade Unions of the Sri Lanka Inland Revenue Service said yesterday, that the new Inland Revenue Act had been drafted by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) included proposals to tax religious places of worship, welfare societies and death donation societies.

The General Secretary of the National Inland Revenue General Employees’ Union, Ajith Pushpakumara  alleged that the Government had failed to discuss with trade unions regarding the proposed Act.

Hence, employees of the Inland Revenue Department  will be launching a token strike today (07), to register their  protest against  proposed draft of the Inland Revenue Act.
