No Power Vested With Provincial Council to Impose Tax on Abandoned Land- Bandula

Yesterday(10) the Chief Minister of  the Western Provincial Council, Isura  Devapriya   announced and  directed officials to assess the value of abandoned land in Western Province and impose  a tax of 2% on it’s value.

In response, MP Bandula Gunawardena in a press brief of the Joint Opposition today said, that only parliament can take  a decision  to impose such tax and Provincial Council  doesn’t have any powers to impose it.
