The appeal court case against BBS General Secretary Ven .Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera for committing offences, contempt of court and threatening Senior State Counsel was taken up for inquiry before the Appeal court Bench Judges , L.D.P.Deldeniya and Preethi Padman Soorasena on Tuesday (18).
The 3 rd witness in this case , Homagama former District Court Acting Magistrate Court Magistrate cum current Colombo Addl.Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake gave his evidence. He said in his evidence, that there were evidences in our judicial history that for keeping a telephone ringing or yawning during a court session, people were
sentenced for committing the offence, contempt of court.
While this is the judicial history, Ven.Gnanasara Thera had abruptly entered the court house, while a case was being heard, pointed out his finger against the Magistrate and ordered him to grant bail to Army suspects, which amounts to contempt of court. Further, he said in his evidence, that he has never faced such an incident, which still haunts his mind even today. He appealed that the highest punishment should be given to him for these offences.
On behalf of the Attorney General, Addl Solicitor General Rohanda Abeyasooriya appeared and submitted a list of 8 witnesses to be produced as prosecution witnesses, which included Homagama Former District Court Acting Magistrate Court Magistrate cum current Colombo Addl.Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake and former
Government Senior lawyer cum current Deputy Solicitor General Dileep Perera. Ven.Gnanasara Thera was present in the appeal court. The inquiry was postponed to Wednesday (19).
