Shooting in Anuradhapura Left One Dead and the Other Wounded

Anuradhapura Police received a tip-off  last night (24) around 9pm,  that  two armed individuals on a motorcycle are attempting to ransack a temple and steal a golden Buddha statue and gems. Police acted immediately and stopped the motorcycle, but the suspects  tried to flee after shooting at the police officers.

Police returned the fire severely wounding one suspect and  causing injuries  to the other. While  severely wounded suspect  was admitted to the Meegalawe Hospital, where he died upon admission.  The other  injured suspect has been admitted to the Anuradhapura hospital.
