The cabinet at its’ meeting held yesterday considered the cabinet paper submitted by the Minister of Prison,Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Affairs and approved compensation payment of Rs 2 million per person , who lost their life during the ethnic violence in Aluthgama, Beruwala and Darga Town.
Accordingly Rs 2 million will be paid to the kith and kin of those, who lost their lives during the violence. Those who were severely wounded will be paid Rs 5 lakhs.
It is relevant to mention that 3 persons died, while 12 were severely wounded in the ethnic violence on 15th and 16th June 2014. Then government had failed to provide relief to those, who were affected.
