First Shipment Of 12500 MT of Nadu Rice From India Imminent.

On direction given by the Cost of Living Committee to overcome rice shortages and price manipulations by unscrupulous elements, 72000 MT “Nadu rice” was ordered from India. Out of this 12500 MT of Nadu rice shipment from India is scheduled to arrive at Colombo Harbour at any time , the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

The orders were placed on the direction of the Cooperative Wholesale Establishment (CWE) under the Ministry of Industry and Commerce , which will receive the imports and will make it available to Lanka Sathosa under the
Ministry.The wholesale cost of this Nadu rice is expected to be Rs 72 per K, while the retail price is to be around a low and affordable Rs 74.
