Despite  Strike Called Off  Railway Operations Still Hampered

Train services were  suspended from Wednesday night till last evening due to a protest launched by railway employees against the recruitment of several railway assistants outside the accepted recruitment procedure.   The Government declared train services as an essential service.  Railway trade unions last evening called off their trade union action, following discussions with the Secretary to the President.
The Railway Control room says despite the strike was called off railway operations have not returned to normalcy. This is due to  Railway guards failed  to report  for duty although  engine drivers reported to work .  A spokesman said though engine drivers reported to work railway guards have not signed in.
As a result the Railway Control room said several trains were cancelled this morning as well.
