Issuing of Gazette Notification on LG Polls Today

Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils Faiszer Mustapha said, the Ministry is scheduled to issue the Gazette Notification on the conduct of the Local Government Polls today (1), thus paving the way for the National Elections Commission to conduct the impending election.

The gazette will detail the number of members that should be appointed to each Local Government body in the country. Yesterday (31) the Cabinet of Ministers granted approval to the proposal to establish four new Pradeshiya Sabhas namely Agrapatana, Maskeliya, Norwood and Kotagala in the Nuwara Eliya District. The new Pradeshiya Sabhas will be created following the recent Amendment to the Local Authorities Elections.
