The Ministry of Highways says, construction of the Southern Expressway from Matara to Hambantota has been partly (48%) completed. Secretary of the Ministry D.C. Dissanayake said the expressway could be vested with the public by the year 2019.
He further noted 44% of construction work on the Colombo Outer Circular Highway from Kadawatha to Kerawalapitiya has also been completed, whilst work on the Central Expressway is also being expedited.
Regarding progress made on flyovers for Ganemulla, Polgahawela and Rajagiriya.
Dissanayake stated the external structures of all three highways have been completed at present.
He noted the Rajagiriya flyover will be completed by the 9th of January next year.

C. Dissanayake on a separate note also said, the Ministry of Highways has further improved programs to develop roads in rural areas.
