Ministry Urges Election Commission to Gazette Names of Elected Councillors of LG Authorities Immediately

As the tenure of office of the councillors begins from 6^th of March, the Secretary to the Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Government H. T. Kamal Padmasiri urged the Election Commission to gazette the names of winning members at the Local Government election as well as those who selected from the additional list immediately.

The communiqué issued by the Secretary said that if a recognized political party or an independent group has failed to secure 50% seats of any Local Government body, the councillors are required to elect either the Mayor or Deputy Mayor at its first meeting.
