Social Media Blocking to be Removed After President Returns to the Island Today

Ministry of Telecommunication said to have requested the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Srilanka to remove the ban on social media.  In response, the TRC, SL has asked the Ministry to wait till the President returns to the island to take a decision on the issue.
The TRCSL yesterday (12) acknowledged that they have received many complaints from businesses on the adverse impact of the restrictions presently imposed on social media.
According to the media office of the TRCSL, almost 27,000 online businesses have been affected by the restriction. It was said that these complaints have been forwarded to the relevant authorities.
It is relevant to mention the fact here that the TRC, SL is functioning under the President and its Chairman is Austin Fernando, Secretary to the President. As the country has returned to normalcy, it is likely that the block will be removed today.
