Island Wide Police Raid 3,666 Arrested  

Police Media Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said that 17,687 Policemen, under the supervision of Provincial DIGs and guidance of IGP Pujith Jayasundara, engaged in an islandwide raid from 9pm day before yesterday to 8am yesterday  and arrested 3,666 alleged suspects.

Among them 648 were arrested for drunk driving.

During the raid Police had arrested nine suspect,  who were in possession of fire arms without a valid license and another with a live hand grenade.

Accordingly, police had arrested 998 warranted suspects and 1.090 suspects in connection with other criminal offenses.

Police had also arrested 843 suspects in possession with heroin or other illegal narcotics while another 77 were taken into custody for consuming alcohol in public venues and several other offenses.

In the meantime, over 6,012 suspects have been charged for road traffic violations.
