For Concealing Crime And Aiding And Abetting Navy Sampth Chief Of Defence Staff To Be Arrested? 

Chief of defence staff Ravindra Wijegunaratne is accused of harbouring Navy Sampath, a criminal suspect, aiding and abetting him to flee the country and concealing his crime when he was the Navy Commander.

Wijegunaratne announced previously that if he is charged, he will resign and support the investigations.

But, he still remains in position although the CID has made submissions against him under ‘B’ report no. 9527/18 to the court.a

The CID has already informed the President, PM, Law and Order Ministry, Defence Secretary and the IGP regarding this development.

The CID reportedly wants to arrest him, but his position prevents it from going ahead with the arrest..

Hence, Ravindra Wijegunaratne is at risk of losing his position as the chief of defence staff, according to defence sources.
