Aug 13, 2015byFastnews

Elections Commissioner (EC) Mahinda Deshapriya urges the public not to publish statements advantageous or disadvantageous to any party or candidate on social media including Facebook, after the election campaign period ends at midnight on August 14.

A spokesperson the Elections Secretariat told that no campaigning should be done from August 15 onwards until the election is over.

Social media has added a significant dimension to election campaigning. Candidates and supporters of many political parties are engaging in campaigning through social media, especially Facebook. (AM)
