(FASTNEWS | COLOMBO) – Minister Gayantha Karunatileka says the United National Party has further strengthened following the announcement of Minister Sajith Premadasa as the Presidential candidate, despite claims of the UNP being divided over selecting a Presidential candidate.
Speaking during an event in Hiniduma Minister Karunatileka said the result of the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha Election will not impact the outcome of the Presidential Election in any manner.
He said there are several districts and seats in the country, that traditionally support particular political parties adding that the Elpitiya is known for its leftist affiliations.
Minister Karunatilek said despite the outcome of the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha election, UNP members will ensure that Minister Sajith Premadasa is elected President, in the same way that the party won last Presidential election.
He added at the upcoming election, as the common candidate of the public, the public will elect a UNP member as the Head of State, after around 20 years.
