Tropical cyclone kills at least 19 in Philippines
(FASTNEWS | MANILA) – A tropical storm in the Philippines has killed at least 19 people, disaster officials said Thursday.
Philippine officials say they are still investigating 11 more deaths, possibly caused by Tropical Storm Compasso, which caused landslides and flooding on the northern tip of the Asia-Pacific islands on Monday.
Another 14 people are reported missing in the Philippines.
Compasso killed a man in Hong Kong while crossing the high seas south of the Chinese city on Wednesday.
After landing on the Chinese island of Hainan, Compasso returned to tropical storms and weakened further on Thursday, moving towards the sea and North Vietnam, with strong winds of up to 40 mph.
