Ravi Karunanayake submitted a report about former Presidents security expenditure

Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake says that a report about former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s expenditures relating to security has been submitted to the cabinet.

The Finance Minister said that the preparation of the report was requested by President Maitripala Sirisena.
The Finance Minister told our news team that the report contained information about staff deployed and facilities provided for the security of the former President.

It was also stated that further probing was being carried out with regard to determining the number of army officers deployed for security.

Meanwhile, Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s media secretary Rohan Waliwita has stated that additional army and officers must be deployed to provide security to the former President.

Issuing a communiqué he said that since the government has started to release LTTE suspects, who are considered as being a threat to society, who had been held in detention centers under the PTA, this has placed the life of  former President Rajapaksa in danger.

When our news team contacted cabinet spokesperson Minister Rajitha Senerathna, he stated that providing military protection to the President and VIP’s have been halted.

However the Minister said that police protection will be provided for the former President.
