Special Parliamentary Session to be convened

It has been decided to convene a special parliamentary session to approve the names of the 3 members to be appointed from the civil society to the constitutional council.

Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkodi stated that the Speaker will decide the date to convene the parliamentary session today.

Earlier it was decided to hold the next parliamentary session on the 9th of June.

However, the Deputy Speaker stated that the date will be advanced after considering the matter as an urgent requirement.

According to the19th amendment, the Constitutional council consists of 10 members.

Accordingly, the Speaker, Prime Minister and the Opposition Leader will represent the Constitutional Council.

Two other members are also appointed as their representatives.
