Medical officials in the South on token strike

(FASTNEWS | COLOMBO) – Individuals attached to the nursing service, supplementary service and interim medical service in the Southern Province have launched a 24-hour token strike as of 7am based on several demands.

The Government Nurses Association said 16 health unions have joined the token strike.

President of the Association Saman Ratnapriya said an indefinite strike will be launched if the government fails to respond to their demands.

He said essential and emergency services at hospitals will be carried out.

Ratnapriya said their demands include due salary increments not being provided, discrepancies in allowances, supplementary health workers not being granted designations and salaries, a government issued circular leading to the disruption of 13,000 promotions, COVID-19 facilities for school children, among other concerns.
