No need to impose power cuts at present

(FASTNEWS | COLOMBO) – Minister of Power Gamini Lokuge says there is no need to impose scheduled power cuts at present.

Speaking during a media briefing at the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Headquarters, Minister Lokuge said although the Ceylon Electricity Board announced a recent power cut, there was no need to disrupt the power supply for at least an hour.

When inquired by media, the Minister said the CEB requested the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka to impose scheduled power cuts, in case of an emergency.

He stressed however plans have not been made to impose scheduled power cuts daily at present.

The Minister noted the CEB has no issues in supplying power to the public at present, adding if there is a power cut the public will be informed.

Minister Lokuge claimed a trade union leader of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation has repeatedly stated there is a fuel shortage, adding however there is no such fuel shortage in the country.
