Premakumar Gunaratnam remanded till Dec 18

Frontline Socialists Party (FSP) political committee member Premakumar Gunaratnam, who was arrested and remanded for visa violations, has been further remanded till December 18 by the Kegalle Magistrate’s Court.

The court had rejected the bail plea of Mr Gunaratnam when he was produced before the court November 27, under Section 45 of the Immigration and Emigration Act.

Therefore when the defendant was produced before the court once again today (11), he was ordered further remanded till December 18.

The case is to be taken up again on January 08 while Magistrate Prasanna Alwis summoned the Immigration and Emigration Controller to appear at court on the said date to show cause.

Premakumar, popularly known as Kumar Gunaratnam, was arrested on November 04 by Kegalle Police in the Aguruwella area.

The former JVP politburo member had arrived in Sri Lanka from Australia on January 01, just days before the Presidential Election.

Gunaratnam, who holds Australian citizenship, had arrived in the island on a 30-day tourist visa which expired on January 31 while the Department of Immigration and Emigration had sought his arrest for visa violations.
