Lanka Bank Employees Unions Start Island Wide Strike Today

The Lanka Bank Employees’ Union says that it will implement an island-wide strike today over the budget’s non-provision of solutions to problems experienced in the bank sector and the 2016 budget.

However the Bank Executives’ Union, the National Employees’ Union and the Sri Lanka Freedom Employees’ Union said that they will not be joining the strike.

Lanka Bank Employees’ Union’s exco. Member Keshara Kohtigoda told our news team that about 30,000 employees from eight State banks and 12 private banks were expected to participate in the strike.

However Government, Semi-Government and Private Sector Trade Union Collective’s convener Saman Ratnapriya convening a media briefing said that they withdrew from the strike since the Government had given positive feedback.
