President pushes forward with the Jana Sabha system

(FASTNEWS | COLOMBO) – President Ranil Wickremesinghe has taken a monumental step towards decentralizing powers of local government bodies by granting his consent to establish the ‘Jana Sabha system’.

The ‘Jana Sabha system’ is proposed by civil society groups in a bid to empower the people.

The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday granted approval to set-up a National Assembly Secretariat to establish the ‘Jana Sabha system’.

The Cabinet Paper in this regard was presented by President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
