Fuel quota for tuks to be increased in two weeks

(FASTNEWS | COLOMBO) –  Minister of Energy Kanchana Wijesekera has assured to increase the weekly fuel quota for three-wheelers within the next two weeks.

Minister of Energy Kanchana Wijesekera has assured to increase in the weekly fuel quota for three-wheelers within the next two weeks.

Speaking in Parliament today, Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said the government has taken a policy decision to increase the fuel quota for three-wheelers that are engaged in full-time passenger transport or accepting ‘hires’.

The Minister said although over 1 million three-wheelers have been registered with the Department of Motor Traffic, they are in the process of segregating the three-wheelers that are engaged in full-time passenger transport.

He said three-wheeler owners were also requested to register at the nearest Police station recently.

Minister Kanchana Wijesekera noted that the government has reduced Rs. 100 per litre of petrol in total in recent weeks and therefore requested the three-wheeler operators to provide that concession to the public.

The Minister said the substantial fuel price reduction must result in a reduction in three-wheeler fares.
