“Only light can dispel darkness” – President
(FASTNEWS | COLOMBO) – President Ranil Wickremesinghe says peace, brotherhood and unity are of significance in the celebration of Diwali and therefore requested all Sri Lankans irrespective of race, religion or political affiliation to unite around the light of Diwali to rebuild Sri Lanka.
Hindu devotees in Sri Lanka and across the globe celebrate the Diwali festival today.
Diwali, among the Hindu community in Sri Lanka, is one of the most celebrated festivals.
The Festival of Lights signifies warding off all the shadows of darkness and bringing light into one’s life and one’s home.
Issuing a message to mark the Diwali festival, President Ranil Wickremesinghe said it is his pleasure to extend his warm felicitation for Diwali, being a colorful religious festival of lights celebrated with much reverence by Hindu devotees.
The President said for Diwali, Hindus illuminate their temples and homes, be it mansions or huts, with light bulbs and lamps symbolizing the expelling of the darkness of ignorance and creating the radiance of knowledge.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe stressed that only light can dispel darkness and therefore, requested all citizens in the spirit of Diwali to cast aside all differences and come together to collectively dispel the darkness that is currently shrouding our Motherland, with unprecedented challenges.
The President said he is hopeful that this Diwali celebration will be the beginning of a better future that will fulfill everyone’s wishes and make Sri Lanka a prosperous nation.
