Over 4,000 families in 13 districts affected by inclement weather
(FASTNEWS | COLOMBO) – Over 4,000 families are still affected by the inclement weather experienced in several parts of the country in the past few days.
The Disaster Management said in its latest update said 17,197 individuals have been affected by adverse weather in 13 districts.
Six deaths and injuries to three individuals are also linked to inclement weather.
Meanwhile, the DMC said nine houses have been destroyed and 388 residences have been damaged due to heavy rains, gusty winds and landslides.
Around 57 families affected by bad weather have also been relocated to temporary shelters at present.
Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology predicts showers or thundershowers at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-Western provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.
The Met Department said heavy showers above 100mm can be expected at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.
Showers or thundershowers may occur elsewhere over the Island during the afternoon or night.
Meanwhile, the general public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
