Dengue Danger Alert in 15 Districts
The Ministry of Health has decided to convene the Presidential Task Force on Dengue in January 2016 to discuss and draw up a comprehensive dengue control campaign. The Task Force will pay special attention to the most affected Divisional Secretariat divisions in the 15 districts.
A cumulative of 26,243 dengue cases have been reported from all parts of the country since 01/01/2015 with over 54 dengue deaths.The National Dengue Control Unit said 215 dengue cases have been reported during the month of December 2015.
According to the Ministry, the Western Province records approximately 52.1% of positive dengue cases.
The Ministry stresses that this situation warrants regular removal of possible mosquito breeding sites from the environment. It also emphasizes that it is important to seek medical attention in the event of fever by day three of the illness.
