Fraud and Corruption Complaints against Local Government Councils

Ninety eight (98)  complaints  have been received by the Committee investigating Frauds and corruption in Local Government bodies said ,Ministry Sources.

Eleven ( 11 ) complaints have been received in respect of Western Provincial Council while less complaints received in respect of Sabragamuwa Provincial Council.

In respect of the the Northern Provincial Council only 5 complaints  were received, Regarding  North Central, Uva and Southern Provinces 4 complaints received. The Committee noted  6 complaints in respect of  Eastern Province. Eight complaints were received  in respect of  Central Province. All  complaints will be  sent to the Commissioner of the Provincial Councils, which in turn will be submitted to the Minister. Thereafter a decision will be taken either to refer it to the Police or to the Presidential Commission on Bribery and corruption.

The period of 23 Local council Bodies including Colombo Municipality, Dehiwala- Galkissa Municipality will lapse on 31st December 2015 The period of currently operating local bodies will be extended by six months.
