Mahinda Rajapakse rebuffs Ranil’s claims

While rebuffing allegations that his government had embezzled some Rs. 28b at the Highway ministry, Ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa charged that the current government is engaging in a vague campaign against him and trying to demean the solid achievements of his government in infrastructure development in every sector in the country.

In his communiqué, Ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa emphasized that even though it is true that he obtained a loan from the National Savings Bank, the sum of Rs. 28 billion mentioned by the Premier is not included in the relevant long-term loan scheme.

However, the short-term loan of Rs. 28 billion was used to meet the local expenditure of the highways projects funded by overseas companies.

Thus, the Former President pointed out in his communiqué that the allegations made by the Premier are false.
