Ajinomoto alias Monosodium Glutonomate is normally used in domestic households and many restaurants as a flavor in Srilanka. Many developed countries have banned use of Ajinomoto as a flavor in cooking in their countries, but comfortably export in large quantities to African and Asian countries. In Latin American countries such as Brazil, Ajinomoto is used as a pesticide, but not as a flavor in cooking or foods, a Srilankan environmentalist visited Brazil confirmed it.In the meantime, Srilanka Government banned the use of pesticide – Glycophosphate by farmers.

Srilankans are capable and famous in discovering alternatives. Farmers in Matale Naula area reported to have been using Ajinomoto in place of banned Glycophosphate. A jubilant farmer from that area said thus “we spray five chemical tanks for one acre and each tank is mixed with 100 grams of Ajinomoto”.End result is pest die on the spot.
