Price Of A Loaf Of Bread Reduced Again

The Ceylon Bakery Owners’ Association has decided to reduce the price of a loaf of bread by one rupee from midnight on Saturday, January 16.

Chairman N. K. Jayawardena said thus, “the price of loaf of bread has been reduced from Rs.55 to Rs.54”.

He added that although the price of bread was increased by one rupee two days ago, following the government’s decision to temporarily withhold the revision of Nation Building tax and Value Added Tax, implemented by the 2016 budget, the Ceylon Bakery Owners’ Association has decided to reduce the price of bread.

In the meantime Chairman of Consumer Rights Protection Association, Ranjith Vithanage requested the Government to fix the price to avoid Bakers charging different prices at their own will.
