Embilipitiya Police Investigation Report on Monday,18th Jan.2016 – IGP orders

Police Investigation into the death of a youth in Embilipitiya should be made available on Monday, 18th January 2016, Inspector General of Police reported to have ordered the DIG in charge of investigation.Immediate relations and public alleged, that it was a killing caused by the Embilipitiya Police. They alleged that a few Policemen from Embilipitiya Police came there while a family party was in progress and demanded arrack bottles. Their demand was not met by those, who organized the party.Thereafter, policemen entered the building under some pretext and started quarrelling with those present there. Followed by this, policemen took the deceased to upstairs in presence of close relations. All of a sudden this youth said to have jumped out, Police stated. Close relations alleged that there was no reason for the youth to jump out and police have pulled him down, which took his life. Later Police spokesman tried to white wash the incident as something happened in a party between two groups and at the end youth had jumped out resulting in death. Later, apart from his position as Police spokesman,he appeared as Attorney at Law on behalf of Embilipitiya Police. At the end of the Court hearing after the case was put off to 27th January 2016, while he was going out, one of the close relations who couldn’t manage to control her feelings took sand in her hand and cursed. This appears to have an impact on Police spokesman, who publicly declared that he wouldn’t appear for this case in future. There were contradictions in Embilipitiya Police investigations, close relations, public minded organizations and politicians publicly voiced. As the public cry for impartial inquiry was increasing day by day, an impartial inquiry was ordered under the direction of Sabragamuwa DIG, C.D.Wickremaratne.Investigation currently carried out is expected to clarify previous contradictions pointed out and report whether it is a natural death or death caused by someone which is equivalent to murder. If so, who is the person or persons responsible for the murder of this Embilipitiya Youth? Close relations, public spirited citizens, Societies , several Social and Political Organizations, Politicians and Human rights Activists are eagerly awaiting to see the outcome of this report. The Inspector General of Police reported to have ordered the investigation report should be submitted on Monday, 18th January 2016.In the meantime, on Saturday, 16th January 2016, a delegation led by Kavinda Jeyawardena , a UNP Member of Parliament along with the brother of the deceased went to the Police Head Quarters and submitted a petition requesting DNA test and the investigation be transferred to the CID.
